Cloud Architect

Job Description

The position requires experience in architecting and implementing data center automation, orchestration or cloud management projects and having the customer communication skills to establish credibility with customers and prospects. The ideal candidate will take a team approach to implementing winning solutions for customers.

  • Give presentations to customers and prospects outlining technical solutions to data center automation and cloud management business problems, specifically pertaining to catalog management, approvals, chargeback, provisioning, (OS/ storage/ network/ database/ application), automated governance and automated compliance
  • Present to customers and prospects as a thought leader in data center automation and cloud management
  • Respond to requests for proposal and proposal/SOW preparation, including development of project implementation plans, cost estimates and resource plans
  • Oversee projects from a technical perspective to ensure high quality delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Develop internal lab/demo environment architecture, implement and manage the ongoing lab operation
  • Develop trusted relationships with project team members, customers and prospects
  • Analyze customers business and functional requirements and develop cost effective, creative technical solutions to fulfill requirements
  • Stage reference architectures, prototypes and demos in lab environments
  • Wear multiple hats as needed in a dynamic, fast moving startup environment
  • Participate in evaluation of new automation tools
  • Billable 50-75%
  • 50-75% travel to customer and prospect sites as needed
  • Preferable residence is Western US, but is not required

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 2-5 years experience architecting, selling or implementing technical solutions involving software, applications, server, storage and network
  • Ability to articulate how technical solutions can solve business problems of datacenter automation, including catalog management, approval workflow, chargeback, OS/application/database/network/storage provisioning, automated governance and automated compliance auditing in both development and production environments
  • Experience architecting, selling and implementing solutions with virtualization and cloud management tools as an integral part of the solution, such as Puppet, Chef, OpenStack, Cloud Management Platforms or Orchestration tools
  • Experience designing, implementing or supporting computing infrastructure including OS, Storage and Networking
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages like Ruby, PHP, Perl or Python.
  • Experience in Linux administration
  • Demonstrated capability as project manager, technical lead, and solutions architect with ability to provide technical and thought leadership to the disciplines of Datacenter Automation and Cloud Management
  • Strong influencing, communication and presentation skills with ability to represent complex solutions in a straightforward and easily understood way
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills  with ability to establish credibility with customers, stakeholders, staff and prospects
  • Ability to leverage personal relationships to bring additional technical staff and/or new business to the company
  • Right to work in the United States
  • Demonstrated success as an implementer in an externally facing consulting environment
  • BS/BA degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • Develop trusted relationships with project team members, customers and prospects
  • Analyze customers business and functional requirements and develop cost effective, creative technical solutions to fulfill requirements
  • Customize off the shelf software in support of project goals and requirements
  • Develop code as needed to fulfill project objectives
  • Stage reference architectures, prototypes and demos in lab environments
  • Install off the shelf software in customers environments in preparation for implementation projects
  • Wear multiple hats as needed in a dynamic, fast moving startup environment
  • Participate in evaluation of new automation tools
  • Billable 80-85%
  • 50-75% travel to customer and prospect sites as needed
